North Macedonia

North Macedonia is a former part of Yugoslavia in the south east of Europe, gaining independence in 1991. A predominantly mountainous country with a vibrent capital Skopja in the north, famed for it's cuisine and hospitality North Macedonia is quickly becoming a mecca for Catboarding. With antiquated ski resorts left over from the communist era the terrain lends itself to Catboard and all at the fraction of the cost of a trip to Canada.

Adventure

After flying into the capital Skopje we'll be picked up and head straight for Popova Shapka the biggest resort in Macedonia nestled in the shar mountains to the west of the capital. Looked after by Shar Outdoors we'll spend the first 2 days exploring the endless options away from the resort and end with a resort day, despite the old lift system there is plenty of fun terrain to explore with the odd stort boot pack. We'll then head back to Skopja for a night out before heading south the following day to SF Freeridenear Bitola. With our very own Cat at our disposal we'll spend 3 days exploring everything on offer in the national park and on Baba mountain, from big open slopes to steep well spaced trees and half pipe shaped gullies this truely is a snowboarders paradise. Both SF Freeride guides are hardcore snowboarders so know exactly what we are looking for. With a proper lunch break in a small mountian hut and home cooked food we'll be fueled up for long days on the mountain.

The second half of the week will be spent exploring the further reaches of the national park with 2 days of splitboard assisted Catboarding. At the end of the week we'll head back to Skopje for a night out before heading home.

Accommodation

For the first 3 nights we'll be staying at hotel Scaradus in the centre of Popova Shapka with big hearty meals and a spa and sauna to help us recover we'll be ready for long days on the hill.

For the second half of the week we'll be staying at hotel Sumski Feneri just outside the city of Bitola, we will be looked after by our host's SF Freeride. A family run Hotel and Catboarding operation run by Ljubica her huband Jove and brother Koce. Staying in comfortable spacious twin rooms we will be treated so some of the best hospitality and cuisine you will ever experience. Bring plenty of energy and a big appetite!

Considerations

Be prepared for short boot packs most days and longs days on the moutnain. A good level of fitness and a reasonable amount of powder riding experience is required to get the most of the week.
